CCSF Invitational Judo Tournament

At the end of every semester, the CCSF Judo Club hosts a Invitational Judo Tournament for the Bay Area. In addition to learning the sport of Judo, you will also be exposed to management of a Judo Tournament. The tournament will begin at 10:00 a.m., beginning with the smallest children, 5 yrs. old up to 16 yrs of age. Adult novice and brown belts will compete around 2:00 pm with the Black Belts competing at 1:00 pm.

Admission is Free.

Responsibility: Beg. Judo Class

  • The running and organization of the Competition Pool
    • The competition is made of a group of competitors will similar characteristics. i.e.. Same rank, weight and sex.
  • Tournament Set Up and Break Down of Equipment

Beginning Judo Class: Responsibility

    Conduct the Pool Elimination System

    • Total People: 2
      • · Pool Recorder
        • #1 Person: Actually conducts the pool elimination system and recording the win/loss result. ·
        • #2 Person: Assists the #1 person in running the Pool
          • Main emphasis: Preparing the athletes for competition

 

Responsibility: Int./Adv. Judo Class

  • The running of the Tournament
  • Timing Systems
  • Scoreboards
  • Weigh-in
  • Registration of Contestants

    Students participating in running and participating in the tournament will be given extra credit.

    Tournament Staff Responsibilities

    Pool Sheet Coordinator: Match Maker

    • The Pool Sheet coordinator has the most difficult responsibility of the tournament.
    • It is their responsibility to match the individuals according to:
    • 1. Sex
    • 2. Age
    • 3. Belt Color
    • 4. Weight

    Liability lawsuits can arise if the matching of individuals are not appropriate. There should be an approximately 10-lbs. difference between the lightest and heaviest individual to be contested. It is better to error on safety than competition.

    Determining the Contestants
    1. Entry forms should be taken from the Weigh-In Coordinator (Locker Room)
    2. Entry forms should be separated between male and female, AFIX a COLOR STICKER TO ALL FEMALE ENTRYFORMS (easier to distinguish).
      • Use two different areas to layout forms
      • Separate entry forms in COLUMNS BY
        • Sex ie: Male
        • Age group ie: 7 yrs old
        • Belt color ie: Orange
        • Weight. ie: 95 lbs.

    Critical Factors: 1.)Weight, 2.)Belt Color, 3.) Age.

    1. At the conclusion of the weigh in time: 9:30 am; (Jr's.) 11:00 am; (Sr.)
      1. Begin to write the pool
      2. Be aware of late entries which might require a re-write of a pool
      3. Double check with Tournament Director as to the appropriateness of the pool definition.
    2. Send the Pool's up to the Announcing Table

    Pool Writers

    Responsible for writing name and club of contestants competing in the "Pools" as handed to you by the Pool Coordinator

    • Print:
    • First and Last Name (1st Line)
    • Dojo/Club (2nd Line)

    Double check as to the appropriateness of the pool

    • Check for:
      • Sex: Are they of the same sex
      • Age: The age group should span only 2-3 ages
      • Belt Color: Are the belt colors similar
      • Weight: Are the contestants between 10 lbs from the lightest to heaviest
    • Let the pool coordinator know of any problems

    Method of Elimination

    Pool system of competition will be used: 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 person pool

    Contestants are grouped in pools according to the following criteria

    • Sex: Are they of the same sex
    • Age: The age group
    • Belt Color: Are the belt colors similar
    • Weight: Are the contestants between 10 lbs from the lightest to heaviest

    Weigh In Coordinator: Weigh-In Team Leader:

    Weigh-In Setup-Day before Tournament

    • [ ] see layout: Placement of scales
    • [ ] Scale calibrated: Use small 5 lb. weight from weight room
    • [ ] Familiar with weigh-in procedures Day of Tournament
      • 1) Double check the accuracy of the information on the Entry Form
        • a) Sex: M for Male / F for Female
        • b) Place a color Sticker for Females in the Sex Box
        • c) Age
        • d) Belt Color: Yellow/Green/ Blue, Orange
      • 2) Write in the appropriate Weight for the athlete in the
        • a) OFFICIAL USE ONLY AREA
        • b) Make sure the scale reads "0"
        • c) Have the athlete step on the scale.
        • d) Weigh
      • 3) Retain the entry form on your clipboard
        • a) Have the "Pool Person" come and get the entry forms from you or
        • b) Turn in Entry Form to Pool Room
